Artisan Column by Jen Rubinowitz | 7/24/11

Well, it is officially hot. I've stayed in denial as long as possible, but I have to admit it now. All I want to do is just sit in front of a fan, preferably in very close proximity to an air conditioning vent, sipping iced tea or some other deliciously cold beverage and do nothing at all.  Unfortunately, that isn't happening. Duty calls me into the heat from a variety of sources.

This weekend was lovely though, despite the raging temperatures.  The Rialto Theater had wonderful audiences at the grand opening of their annual summer melodrama and we attended a lovely outdoor wedding with some musician friends in Rockport.  Special events like this involving creative and artistic people are always interesting and a step off the beaten path.  The groom's musical family all joined in to add lovely melodies to an absolutely beautiful experience.

Brave the heat and take some time this week to bring beauty to your days.  There are several non-profit arts organizations as well as privately owned galleries with fantastic art in every single town in our immediate area.  All you have to do is take the time to look and see.  You won't be sorry and it will take your mind off the summer temperatures for a bit, anyway!  By the way, this is the final weekend for the Art Center for the Islands "Bi-Annual Barefoot Art Sale," so if you haven't been over the ferry for a look-see; it's worth the journey for some great prices on some wonderful art.
